Why I made Velfile

I am a student who likes building websites. I made Velfile because many online file tools are a hassle: you have to create an account, the page is full of ads, or your file is uploaded to someone else's server. I wanted something simple instead. Pick a tool, add your file, download the result, and the file stays on your own device, processed in your browser.

What Velfile is

Velfile is a small set of tools for everyday files, free to use. You can compress, resize, crop and convert images, remove photo backgrounds, make ID photos, enlarge and sharpen small photos, and shrink a photo to a set size in KB. For PDFs, you can merge, split, rotate, compress and convert them, and add page numbers or a watermark. You can also make QR codes for links, text and Wi-Fi. Each tool does one job and opens ready to use, with no account and no sign-up.

How it works

The tools run in your browser. When you choose a file, it is read and processed on your own device, and Velfile does not upload it to a server. The Privacy page explains this in more detail.

Good to know

• Images can be up to 50 MB and PDFs up to 100 MB.
• Some PDF tools work on a limited number of pages at a time. Each tool says so on its page.
• Compress PDF has two modes. Keep text only shrinks the photos and scans inside the PDF, so the text stays selectable. Smallest file turns each page into an image, so the text can no longer be selected or searched.
• Speed depends on your device, because the work happens there.

Why it runs in your browser

Most online file tools ask you to upload your file, wait for a server to process it, and then download the result. That is slow on a weak connection, and it means a copy of your file leaves your device. Velfile takes the other route. The code that does the work is sent to your browser, and your browser does the work on your own device. Your photos, scans and PDFs do not travel anywhere, and the tools keep working even when the connection is slow.

The trade-off is that speed depends on your phone or computer. A large PDF on an older phone takes longer than on a laptop, and each tool tells you when a file is too big for it.

The tools

Images: Compress Image (by quality or to a size in KB), Resize Image, Crop Image, Scan Document, Image Converter (JPG, PNG and WebP), Remove Background, ID Photo, Print Sheet, Watermark Photo and Enhance Photo and Remove Photo Metadata.

PDF: JPG to PDF, PDF to JPG, Merge PDF, Word to PDF, Split PDF, Delete PDF Pages, Organize PDF (rotate and reorder pages), Compress PDF, Sign PDF, Page Numbers and Watermark PDF.

There are also step-by-step guides for common jobs, such as making a photo smaller for an upload form or putting several PDFs into one file. Velfile is available in English and Indonesian.

What Velfile does not do

• It does not store your files. An account is optional and only keeps your email, name and login data (see Privacy). Once you close the page, the file and the result are gone, so download what you need first.
• It does not edit the text inside a PDF. It can merge, split, rotate, compress, sign and stamp pages, but it is not a full PDF editor.
• It cannot open password-protected PDFs.
• The photo tools that use AI (Remove Background, ID Photo and Enhance Photo) download a model the first time you use them. Your photo itself is not sent anywhere, but the first run needs a connection and can take a moment.

How to check the privacy claim yourself

You do not have to take our word for it. On a computer, open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and use a tool such as Compress Image. You will see the page and its code load, and you will not see your file being uploaded. The Privacy page lists the few outside services the site does contact, and why.
