Tips
- Choose JPG for photos, PNG for logos, screenshots and anything with sharp edges or transparency, and WebP when you want the smallest file for the web.
- Converting a JPG to PNG usually makes the file bigger, not better. PNG cannot bring back detail that JPG already lost.
- Each time a picture is saved again as JPG, it loses a little quality. Convert once, from the best original you have.
- If a form rejects your file, converting it to JPG is the safest fix, because almost every upload page accepts JPG.

Good to know
The picture is decoded in your browser and saved again in the format you choose. Nothing is sent anywhere. HEIC photos from an iPhone are decoded first, then saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.
- Limits: up to 50 MB per image, and up to 30 images at once.
- PNG and WebP can keep transparency. JPG cannot, so transparent areas turn white when you save as JPG.
- The converted file is a new copy, so camera details stored in the original, such as location, are not carried over. To remove them without converting, use Remove Metadata.
Common questions
Which format should I choose?
JPG is best for photos, PNG for logos and screenshots with sharp edges or transparency, and WebP is a modern format that is usually smaller.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas become white.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is processed in your browser on your device and is not sent to a server.
Will WebP work everywhere?
Modern browsers and most current apps open WebP, but some older programs and upload forms do not. Choose JPG if you are unsure.
What does the Quality slider do?
It controls how strongly the picture is compressed when saving as JPG or WebP. Higher keeps more detail but makes a bigger file.
