Tips
- Crop before you resize. That way you do not lose pixels you still need.
- Pick 1:1 for a square profile photo, 3:4 for a portrait, 4:3 for a standard photo, and 16:9 for wide banners or video thumbnails.
- Use Free when you need a shape that is not in the list, such as 2:3. Drag the box until the shape looks right.
- Cropping away empty space around a document photo also makes the file smaller.

Good to know
Cropping cuts out the part inside the box at the photo's full resolution, so the piece you keep loses no sharpness. It does not scale the picture.
- The limit is 50 MB per image.
- The size shown under the box is the size of the file you will download, in pixels.
- A fixed shape such as 1:1 keeps its ratio while you drag. Switch to Free if you need to change the ratio.
Common questions
Does cropping lower the quality?
The pixels you keep stay as they are. For JPG and WebP the file is saved again at high quality, so tiny differences are possible.
Can I crop to a square for a profile photo?
Yes. Tap 1:1, then move the box to the part you want.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is processed in your browser on your device and is not sent to a server.
Which shape should I use for an ID photo?
Check what the form asks for. 3:4 is common for portrait photos, but some forms use other shapes, such as 2:3. For those, choose Free and set the box by eye.
Can I move the crop box after I draw it?
Yes. Drag the box to move it, and drag a corner to change its size.
