Strip location, camera and date info from a photo before you share it.
or pick one from your device
Choose photoHow to remove metadata from a photo
- Choose a photo or drop it on the box.
- Read the list of hidden data found in it, such as location, camera and date.
- Press Download clean photo. The new file has the same picture, without that data.
Tips
- Clean a photo before you post it where strangers can see it, such as a marketplace, a forum or a public link.
- The picture itself is not changed. JPG, PNG and WebP are cleaned without being saved again, so there is no loss in quality.
- Hidden data is not the only thing that can give away a place. A street sign, a house number or a shop front in the picture still shows where you were.
- To also make the file smaller, finish with Compress Image.

Common questions
What is photo metadata?
It is information saved inside a photo file next to the picture. Phones and cameras often store the date and time, the device model, camera settings and, if location is on, the GPS position where the photo was taken. It is also called EXIF data.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is read and cleaned on your own device, in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.
Does it lower the quality of my photo?
No. For JPG, PNG and WebP, only the hidden data is cut out. The picture is left exactly as it was, so there is no new compression and no loss of quality.
Does it remove the location?
Yes. The GPS location is removed from the file. The list on the page shows what was found, and after cleaning the page checks the new file again to make sure that data is gone.
Why does a rotated photo keep a small tag?
Some photos are saved sideways and carry a note that tells apps to turn them upright. Removing that note would make the photo show sideways, so only this rotation note is kept. It holds no personal information.
Why is the file only a little smaller?
Metadata is small, usually a few kilobytes. The size of the file mostly comes from the picture, which is left untouched. Use Compress Image if you also want a smaller file.
What about iPhone HEIC photos?
They are turned into JPG first, and the JPG is then cleaned.
