Good to know
Velfile reads your .docx in the browser, lays out the text itself and writes a new PDF. It handles headings, bold, italic, underline, colours, lists, tables, pictures, tab stops, and headers and footers with page numbers.
- Fonts are replaced with the standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times and Courier), so line breaks and the page count can differ from Word.
- Not included: text boxes, shapes, charts, equations, footnotes and columns. Links keep their text but are not clickable.
- Letters outside the Latin alphabet, such as Arabic or Chinese, cannot be shown and appear as a question mark.
- Limit: .docx files up to 25 MB. Password protected files cannot be opened.
Common questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. The file is read and converted in your browser on your device and is not sent to a server.
Will it look exactly like it does in Word?
Not always. Word documents depend on fonts and layout rules that a browser cannot copy exactly. Text, lists, tables and pictures come through well, but line breaks and page breaks can shift a little.
Can I convert a .doc file?
Not directly. Open it in Word, choose Save As and pick .docx, then convert that file.
Why do some characters show as a question mark?
The PDF uses standard fonts, which only cover Latin letters. Other scripts cannot be drawn and are replaced with a question mark.
Are the links in my document clickable in the PDF?
No. The link text stays, but it is not clickable.
Is there a page limit?
No page limit, but the file must be 25 MB or less. Very long documents can take a little while on an older phone.
