Compress Image
Make the file smaller by quality, or to a size like 100 KB or 200 KB.
or pick one from your device
Choose imageHow to compress an image
- Choose an image (JPG, PNG or WEBP) or drop it on the box.
- Pick how to compress. With Quality, move the slider and the result updates right away. With Target size, pick a size such as 200 KB and press Compress to this size.
- Check the sizes, then press Download.
Tips
- Resize first, then compress. A photo with fewer pixels compresses much further without looking worse. Use Resize Image for that.
- Start around 75 percent and go down in small steps. Stop when you notice blocky areas around faces or text.
- Many portals ask for a photo under 100 KB or 200 KB. Use Target size and type exactly that number.
- With Target size, the tool lowers the quality first. If that is not enough, it also makes the picture a little smaller in pixels, and it tells you when it does.
- Screenshots with small text need a higher quality than photos, because compression blurs thin lines first.
- Keep your original. Compression cannot be undone, so save the smaller picture under a new name.

Common questions
Why doesn't my PNG get smaller?
PNG keeps every detail, so quality can't be lowered. Save as JPG or WebP for a much smaller file.
Which quality should I pick?
Around 70 to 80 percent usually looks very close to the original but is much smaller.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is processed in your browser on your device and is not sent to a server.
Can I compress many images at once?
Velfile compresses one image at a time, so you can check the quality and size of each result before you download it.
Will the picture look worse?
A little, if you lower the quality a lot. At around 70 to 80 percent most photos look almost the same on a screen, but the file is much smaller.
Will the result be exactly the size I typed?
It will be at or just under your target, never over it. Often it lands within a few percent of the number you typed.
What if my photo is already smaller than the target?
Then you do not need to compress it. The tool tells you, and you can download your original file as it is.
