How to turn PDF pages into JPG images

Save the pages of a PDF as images you can share, upload or put in a presentation.

When a picture is better than a PDF

A PDF is the right format for documents, but sometimes you need an image. A form may accept only JPG files. You may want to send one page in a chat app, put a page into a slide, or post a certificate as a picture. In all these cases a JPG of the page is the simplest answer.

How to convert with Velfile

  1. Open PDF to JPG and choose your PDF.
  2. Leave the Pages box empty to convert everything, or type a range such as 1-3, 5 to convert only those pages.
  3. Choose an image quality: Small file, Standard or High detail.
  4. Press Convert to JPG. Download each page one by one, or take all of them as one ZIP file.

The conversion runs in your browser. Your PDF is not sent to a server, which is useful when the document is private.

Which quality should you choose

High detail keeps more sharpness and is best for pages with small text, tables or fine drawings, but the files are bigger. Standard is a good balance for most uses. Small file is enough for a quick preview or a chat message. If you are not sure, start with Standard and look at the result. You can always convert again with another setting.

What to know about the result

If you only need the text

Converting to images is not the right tool when you want the words. In that case copy the text from the PDF itself. Pictures of text are bigger, harder to search and not friendly to screen readers.

If the images are too big for an upload

High detail pages can be a few megabytes each. If a form has a size limit, run the images through Compress image to bring them under it, or convert again with a lower quality. For a tight limit such as 200 KB, see our guide on compressing a photo to 100 KB or 200 KB.

Going back to PDF

Later you may want to join the pictures into one document again. JPG to PDF turns images into pages of a PDF, in the order you choose.

A real example

An online form asks for a photo of your certificate in JPG, but you only have a PDF. Open PDF to JPG, type the page number of the certificate in the Pages box, and choose Standard. Download the picture and check that names and dates are readable. If the form has a size limit, compress the image afterwards. This takes less than a minute, and you do not need to install software.

Questions people ask

How many pages can I convert at once?
Up to 50 pages per run. For a longer PDF, convert one range at a time.

Yes. Each page becomes its own JPG, and you can download them all together as a ZIP file.

Why is my JPG so big?
High detail keeps more sharpness, which makes the image bigger. Choose Standard or Small file for lighter images.

Is my file sent to a server?
No. The conversion happens in your browser on your device.
