Why combine photos
Sometimes one photo is not enough. A recipe with several steps, a before-and-after comparison, a run of screenshots, or pieces of a conversation are usually easier to read as a single image. Merging also helps when a form or an upload field accepts only one file. Instead of sending five separate images, you put them together as one.
Two ways to arrange them
- Stacked vertically Photos are stacked from top to bottom, like joined pages. Good for recipes, long screenshots, or a series of chat messages.
- Side by side Photos are placed left to right. Good for before-and-after comparisons, or two photos you want to show as a pair.
How to do it with Velfile
- Open Merge Images and choose two or more images. JPG, PNG, WEBP and HEIC from iPhone all work.
- Pick the layout under Stacked vertically or Side by side.
- If you need to, set the Gap and background colour. For a transparent background, choose PNG.
- Choose JPG or PNG, set the Quality for JPG, then press Download.
Everything runs in your browser, on your device. Images are not uploaded to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the page.
When the photos are different sizes
Images are not stretched or cut when merged. Their aspect ratio stays, so photos do not look squashed. If the sizes differ, the smaller photo gets empty space at its sides, filled with the background colour you choose.
The result looks tidiest when the images share a similar width or height. If one is much smaller, resize it first with Resize Image, or choose a background that blends with the photo.
JPG or PNG
Use PNG for screenshots, text, or images that need a transparent background, because edges stay sharp. Use JPG for ordinary photos when you want a smaller file; quality at 90 percent or higher is usually hard to tell apart from the original. Keep in mind that JPG does not support a transparent background.
Common ways people use it
- Putting before-and-after photos side by side for a treatment, repair, or design result.
- Joining several screenshots into one image so others can read them easily.
- Combining product or property photos into one image for a listing or a message.
- Putting two photos together for a single upload field that accepts only one file.
Limits and things to know
Up to 20 images at once, each up to 50 MB. Merging very high-resolution images can be slow on an older phone, because every image is opened in memory at once. If it feels heavy, merge in two groups and then combine the results. Note also that merging does not raise the resolution: a blurry photo stays blurry after merging.
