Signing a PDF without a printer
You get a form, a letter or a contract as a PDF, and it needs your signature. You do not have to print it, sign it with a pen and scan it again. You can put an image of your handwritten signature straight onto the page and save the result as a new PDF.
Two ways to make your signature
- Draw it. Draw with your finger on a phone or a mouse on a computer. Draw slowly and fill the box, because a bigger drawing gives a smoother signature.
- Use a photo of your real signature. Sign on plain white paper with dark ink, then take a straight, well-lit photo. The tool removes the white background, so only the ink stays. Use a PNG or JPG picture.
The photo method usually looks the most like your real signature, and you only need to make the picture once.
How to do it with Velfile
- Open Sign PDF and choose your PDF. Files up to 100 MB are accepted.
- Under Your signature, draw it in the box, or press Upload image to use a picture. Press Clear to start again.
- Under Place it on the page, use the arrows to pick the page, then drag the signature to the signature line.
- Use Size so the signature sits neatly above the line and does not cover other text.
- If every page needs the same signature, tick Put the signature on every page.
- Press Sign PDF, then Download PDF.
Your PDF and your signature are processed in your browser. They are not uploaded to a server, and your original PDF does not change, because the signed copy is a new file.
Signing only some pages
The tick box places the signature at the same spot on all pages. To sign only certain pages, run the tool once for the first page, then run it again on the file you just made for the next page, and so on.
Is it a legal signature?
This adds a picture of your handwritten signature. Many forms, applications and everyday documents accept that. A picture is not a certified digital signature, though, and some contracts need a certified or a witnessed signature. Check what the person who receives the document asks for before you send it.
If the file will not open
A password-protected PDF cannot be read by the tool. Remove the password in the program that made the file, or ask the sender for an unlocked copy. If the signed file is too large to send, shrink it with Compress PDF.
Before you send it
Open the signed PDF and check each page you signed. Make sure the signature is on the line, upright and not covering text. If the document needs page numbers, add them first with Add Page Numbers to PDF, and sign last.
