Why take pages out of a PDF
A PDF is often longer than what you need to share. A contract of forty pages where only the signature page matters, a scanned file with your ID and several other documents, or a report where you need two chapters. Sending the whole file wastes the reader's time and may share more than you meant to. Taking out just the pages you need gives you a smaller, more focused file.
How to do it with Velfile
- Open Split PDF and choose your PDF (up to 100 MB).
- In Pages to extract, type the pages you want. Or use Quick pick for the first page, the last page, or all pages.
- Press Extract pages, then Download PDF.
You get a new PDF with only those pages. The original file stays as it is.
How to write the page numbers
Separate parts with commas, and use a dash for a range.
- 3 gives only page 3.
- 1-3 gives pages 1, 2 and 3.
- 1-3, 5, 8-10 gives pages 1 to 3, page 5, and pages 8 to 10, in that order.
The pages come out in the order you type them. If you type 5, 1, the new file starts with page 5 and then page 1. This is a simple way to change the order of a few pages.
Common uses
- Send a single page. For example only the page with a signature, a receipt, or a table.
- Remove pages by choosing what to keep. To delete page 4 from a ten-page file, extract 1-3 and 5-10. The new file leaves page 4 out.
- Share less. If a scanned file contains personal pages that the other person does not need, take out only the pages they should see.
- Cut a long file into parts. Some tools only handle a limited number of pages. Compress PDF, for instance, works on up to 100 pages at a time, so you can split a longer PDF first and compress each part.
- Pick pages to turn into pictures. Extract the pages you want, then use PDF to JPG to save them as images.
Check before you send
Open the new file and look at it. Make sure the page you wanted is there, that nothing extra came with it, and that the order is right. If you chose pages to hide something private, be sure the pages you removed really are gone from the new file, and send that file, not the original.
Putting pages back together
Pages you took out can be joined again, or combined with other files, using Merge PDF.
If the PDF will not open
A PDF that is locked with a password cannot be read by the tool. Remove the password in the program that created it, save a copy, and try again.
The work runs in your browser, on your own device. The PDF is not uploaded to a server.
