How to rotate PDF pages and save the change

Fix pages that are sideways or upside down, and keep the fix in the file.

Why PDF pages end up sideways

Sideways pages are common, especially in scans. A scanner or a scanning app may feed a sheet in the wrong direction. A phone saves a photo with a note about how it was held, and a program that ignores the note shows it turned. A document may also mix portrait and landscape pages, such as a wide table in the middle of a text report, and one of them is stored the wrong way round.

Turning the view is not the same as saving

Most PDF readers have a rotate button. In many of them, this only changes how the page is shown on your own screen. When you close the file, or send it to someone else, the pages can be sideways again. If the file is going to someone else, or to an upload form, you need to rotate the pages in the file itself and save the new version.

How to rotate with Velfile

  1. Open Rotate PDF and choose your PDF (up to 100 MB).
  2. Under Rotate by, pick the direction: 90° right, 90° left or 180°.
  3. Leave Pages to rotate empty to turn every page, or type the pages you want, such as 2-4 or 1, 5, 7.
  4. Press Rotate PDF, then Download PDF.

You get a new PDF, and your original file is not changed.

Which direction should I choose

If you are not sure, check the result before you download. If it is wrong, choose the other direction and try again from the original file.

Rotating only some pages

Often only a few pages are wrong. Rotating the whole file would fix those pages and break the others. Type just the pages that need turning. For example, if pages 3 and 4 of a scan are sideways, type 3-4 and leave the rest alone.

If different pages need different turns, run the tool more than once. First turn the pages that need 90° right, download the result, open that file in the tool again, and turn the pages that need 90° left.

After you rotate

The rotation happens in your browser, on your own device. The PDF is not uploaded to a server.
