How to turn photos and scans into a PDF

Photograph your documents, then turn the pictures into one tidy PDF.

Why use a PDF instead of photos

A phone makes it easy to photograph a certificate, an ID card or a signed letter. But a pile of loose image files is awkward to send. They can arrive in the wrong order, they show up at different sizes, and many forms only accept PDF. A single PDF keeps the pages together in order and looks the same on every device.

Take better photos first

The PDF can only be as clear as the photos you put in. A few habits make a big difference.

If there is too much empty space around the page, use Crop Image to cut it away before you continue.

How to make the PDF with Velfile

  1. Open JPG to PDF and choose your images. JPG, PNG and WebP all work. You can add up to 30 images at a time, each up to 100 MB.
  2. Use the up and down controls to set the page order. The first image becomes page one.
  3. Pick the Page size and the Margin.
  4. Press Create PDF, then Download PDF.

Choosing the page size and margin

The margin is the empty border around the picture. None fills the whole page, while Small and Medium leave some white space, which looks neater if the PDF will be printed.

Keep the file size under control

Photos from a modern phone are large, and 30 of them in one PDF can become very heavy. If the result is too big to send, you have two options. You can shrink each photo first with Compress Image and then make the PDF. Or you can make the PDF first and then run it through Compress PDF. Shrinking the photos first usually gives you more control over the quality.

When you already have some PDFs

If part of your documents are already PDFs and the rest are photos, make a PDF from the photos first, then join everything with Merge PDF.

Privacy

Photos of documents are personal. The conversion in Velfile runs in your browser, on your own device. Your pictures are not uploaded to a server.
